Announced by the festival on April 18th, 2022, Muse headlined the 2022 edition of Rock in Rio in Lisbon, on June 18th, filling in for original headliners [[Foo Fighters]], who withdrew following the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins. As such, Muse headlined the festival together with Post Malone, [[Duran Duran]] & The Black Eyed Peas.<ref>https://www.instagram.com/p/CcgZ5tMIoJS/</ref>
 
[[Dear Sherlock]], a well known (but pretty unknown) band in the Muse fanbase played the same day, but on another stage.<ref>https://www.instagram.com/p/CeoSuJvNLte/</ref>
 
This marked the fourth time Muse made an appearance on the festival, four years after their [[Lisbon Bela Vista Park 2018 (gig)|appearance at the last Lisbon edition of Rock in Rio]], which took place in 2018. They appeared six times on the Rock in Rio festival overall, last time being in [[Rio de Janeiro Rock in Rio 2019 (gig)|Rio 2019]].
 
==The Show==
 
Just before Interlude + Hysteria, Matt’s guitar completely cut out, forcing the band to stall for several moments.
 
Rain began to pour quite heavily at the end of Compliance, and remained for the rest of the show.
 
Matt’s vocals were distorted for Time is Running Out’s choruses, marking the first time distortion has been used in the song since the Absolution Tour.
 
Kill or Be Killed’s outro featured some additional vocals for the first time.
 
Supermassive Black Hole featured a non-kaoss pad solo, which is quite a rare occurrence. This also marked the first The Gallery performance without the kaoss pad.
 
[[Murph the Robot]] from the Simulation Theory Tour was brought back. It was lowered onto the stage via wires during Kill or be Killed. The stage set up itself was also changed, with LED lights and a big LED screen behind the band, as opposed to the regular LED strips. Some of the gear was also missing (most notably Matt's M1D1 guitar, the white Marshall, and the drums, as well as Dan Lancaster's upper keyboard and tablet). This was all because of logistics, with the new inflatable model, Will, along with the band’s regular stage set-up, being prepared for the gig at Isle of Wight Festival, taking place the very next day. Very Similar to the [[Manson Chrome FR]], however, the 2.0 version features no (Yes/No) switch and no mini kill button. The guitar also features a humbucker Sustainiac pickup in the neck, unlike its predecessor the Manson Chrome FR which has a single coil Sustainiac.
