Information
One of the few songs in the record on which Matt Bellamy is only credited on its composition. The song starts with some piano notes, followed then by strings that slowly build up into an aggressive rhythm. The song's title makes reference to a Winston's dream, in which O'Brien tells Winston Smith, that they will meet in the "Place where there is no darkness". It is said to be a metaphor of the "imagined future", however, it hints that the place, in reality, is Winston's mind, in where he can dream and think safely, as Big Brother can't access his thoughts. It's because of this dream, that probably, Winston believes that O'Brien is similar to him, motivating Smith to trust in O'Brien eventually
–We shall meet in the place where there is no darkness,– O’Brien had said to him. He knew what it meant, or thought he knew. The place where there is no darkness was the imagined future, which one would never see, but which, by foreknowledge, one could mystically share in. But with the voice from the telescreen nagging at his ears he could not follow the train of thought further. ― George Orwell, 1984
