Kyoto Protocol
Kyoto Protocol are a Malaysian rock band, based in Kuala Lumpur. Named after a UN Convention on climate change (called the Kyoto Protocol), the band consists of vocalist and guitarist Fuad Alhabshi, keyboard player and backing vocalist Gael Oliveres, guitarist Hairi Haneefa, bassist Shakeil "Shaq" Bashir and drummer Shanjeev "Shan" Reddy. The band formed in 2009 and won 1st place in a music competition called the Yamaha Asian Beat Central Regional Finals. After proceeding through to the National Finals, the band narrowly missed the top spot and a chance to represent Malaysia in the Asian Beat Grand Finals in Japan. Despite that, the band gained recognition by MGMT, who invited them to open for them at their first ever gig in Kuala Lumpur in 2011. This was the band's first exposure to a big stage. Throughout the years, Kyoto Protocol have supported major acts such as Fun, Bloc Party, The Temper Trap and The Killers.
So far, the band released one EP and two studio albums. In 2011, they released a 5-track Extended Play called "An Album" under Monsoon Records. The EP's lead single, "Pussycat", received heavy airplay on the national radios. In 2015, they released their first studio album called "Catch These Men", while in 2017, their second LP "The Pen is Mightier" was released.
Kyoto Protocol are set to support Muse on the Kuala Lumpur gig, part of the Will of the People World Tour.
