Bloc Party

Bloc Party four piece rock band from London, UK, featuring frontman Kele Okelere on vocals and rhytm guitar, Russel Lissack on lead guitar, with Harry Deacon on bass since 2023 and Louise Bartle on drums since 2015. The latter two replaced original members, bassist Gordon Moakes and drummer Matt Tong. Other lineup changes include bringing Sarah Jones on drums for a brief time in 2013 and Justin Harris and Daniel Pugsley on bass between 2015 and 2023.
Active since 1999, the band's music has been described as a mix of indie rock with alternative rock, post-punk revival, dance rock, art rock and alternative dance influences with their influences raging from Smashing Pumpkins and Blur to Sonic Youth and Joy Division. Some of their most famous songs include "Helicopter" (from Silent Alarm, released in 2005) and "Flux" (from A Weekend in the City, released in 2007). Following the release of their afforementioned debut LP, Silent Alarm, in 2005, Bloc Party were nominated for a couple NME Awards (Best New Artist in 2005 and Best British Band in 2006) an MTV Europe Music Award (Best Alternative Act in '05) and a PLUG Award (for New Artist of the Year in '05 and Live Act of the Year in '06). The debut album received a Best Album NME Award in 2005 and the Best Indie Rock Album award at 2006 PLUG Awards. In 2025, the original lineup (Okelere, Lissack, Moakes and Tong) won an Ivor Novello award in the Outstanding Song Collection category.
Russel said in an interview his favourite album of the moment was Black Holes and Revelations. Their song "Song For Clay (Disappear Here)" from their second album has likely been influenced by Muse, sounding rather a lot like New Born.
The band are set to support Muse in 2026, during their July leg of the North American run of amphitheatre shows for The Wow! Signal tour, between July 5th and July 29th, together with The Temper Trap.
