Information

Announced on December 9th, 2024, Muse headlined the 2025 Hellfest Festival in Clisson's Val de Moine on June 20th, 2025. The Muse website leaked their apparence a few hours earlier by adding the concert on the tour page, with a typo on Clisson, written as Classon instead.^[5] According to the festival founder and director, Ben Barbaud, Foo Fighters were originally scheduled to headline the festival but subsequently dropped out, so Muse stepped in to replace them.^[6]

The Show

The setlist, which was changed quite a bit from the previous gigs to cater to the metal festival crowd, included tour debuts of We Are Fucking Fucked, Kill or Be Killed, New Born, and Citizen Erased:

Kill or Be Killed was played after the regular Simulation Theory Theme / JFK intro, with Won't Stand Down played after it. The Duality riff was played for the first time as an outro to Kill or Be Killed.
Hysteria swapped places with Psycho, thus was played later in the set.
Gojira's Stranded riff was played before We Are Fucking Fucked for the first time.
We Are Fucking Fucked was played in Will of the People's slot, with the latter replacing Starlight and being played before Supermassive Black Hole later on in the setlist.
New Born replaced Compliance after the Kill or Be Killed (Feilsmann & Tiley Remix), with streamers being released during the song.
Citizen Erased was played instead of Thought Contagion, and a new 7-string guitar made its debut.
The encore remained unchanged.

Additional flamethrowers were present beside the stage and were used during every song. The usual flamethrowers placed in the front and the back of the stage were used during Unraveling, Kill or Be Killed, Won't Stand Down, We Are Fucking Fucked, New Born, Will of the People, Uprising, and Knights of Cydonia.

The gig suffered from multiple technical issues involving Matt's guitar and microphone volumes; the sound was either very low or absent from the start of the show until Hysteria. It broke again during the transition to guitar during New Born. According to intermittent workers on the festival, a console had a meltdown backstage and they had to improvise with a spare one during the first 6 songs, until they were able to find a solution that worked.
