Starlight was played for the first time, however out of the previously unheard songs the BBC Radio 1 broadcast only included Knights of Cydonia, perhaps this being an indicator that it [[Knights of Cydonia (single) | was going to be the second single]].  At the request of Muse's management, one of the major fan sites initially refused to host downloads of the gig.

Information

A performance for the One Big Weekend festival organised by the BBC. Muse's first show since they recorded the new album and their first UK gig since Earls Court, 2004.

Matthew Bellamy, speaking a day before the gig: "We're a little bit rusty obviously, but we'll give it our best shot. We are looking forward to playing, it's good to do a gig after such a long break. It sort of kicks our arse back into gear and eh yeah I'm looking forward to it. We'll probably play a few new tracks there, and obviously a couple of old ones as well, and yeah - I'm looking forward to it."[source?]

The Show

Supermassive Black Hole, Starlight, and Knights of Cydonia were all played live for the first time. A new version of Sunburn was also played at this gig which featured Bellamy on guitar with Morgan Nicholls playing piano, creating a version that sounded very similar to the studio version. For unknown reasons however, this version hasn't been played since.

Bellamy used the Manson Chrome Bomber and the Manson M1D1 Black for the first time at the show, on a number of songs, while Dominic Howard used a new set of see-through acrylic drums.

Attire

The band also sported a much different image from that of Absolution. Bellamy returned to his jet black hair and had grown it much longer, whilst Christopher Wolstenholme wore a very different hairstyle, with it being significantly longer and with a lighter colour. Howard had also grown his hair much longer.

Speech

After Hysteria Bellamy "Thank you Dundee".
Howard [?]
After Supermassive Black Hole Bellamy "Cheers".
After Sunburn Bellamy "Thank you"
After Starlight
After Time Is Running Out "Cheers".
After Knights of Cydonia "Thank you Dundee! See you at T on the Fringe".
Howard "Cheers, goodnight, see you later".

Media

The show was broadcasted by the BBC. Videos of Supermassive Black Hole, Time Is Running Out, Sunburn and Bliss were shown on the Radio 1 webcast and on BBCi. You can watch them all on their links below. An audio rip in lossless (FLAC) format of the FM radio broadcast can be found on MuseBootlegs here. Pro-shot footage of three songs can be found here. At the request of Muse's management, one of the major fan sites initially refused to host downloads of the gig.
