Information
Released on June 1st 2022, the music video for Will of the People, is a digital animation music video, set in a fictional multiverse, which tells the story of a rioter, joining a large group of citizens, all wearing the Will of the People hacker masks (which also made appearances in the previous music videos), rioting against the "dictators" (portrayed by the band), tearing down statues of their heads (as seen on the Will of the People album artwork). At the end, it is revealed that three of the rioters are infact the "dicators" (the band), which appear to be rioting against themselves. In the words of Matt Bellamy, ""Will of the People" is fictional story set in a fictional metaverse on a fictional planet ruled by a fictional authoritarian state run by a fictional algorithm manifested by a fictional data centre running a fictional bank printing a fictional currency controlling a fictional population occupying a fictional city containing a fictional apartment where a fictional man woke up one day and thought "fuck this.""[1]
The song's music video itself, being that of the title track, contains alot of elements which are seen in the album artwork. It was also previously used as a short teaser for the album announcement, in March of 2022.[2]
Additional information
The video was directed by Tom Teller and produced by Frame 48. The same production company also handled post-production and VFX for both the Simulation Theory Film and all of Simulation Theory's music videos, with Tom Teller as executive director on all projects. The visual performance was motion captured by parkour athlete, Didi Alaoui at one of the Tempest Freerunning Academies in the USA.
This is the first music video during the Will of the People era which isn't filmed in the 4:3 format.
