Hey, y'all! I'm the Muser from Memphis, and I am interested in song keys. I have been teaching myself the basics of music theory as I've started writing my own material, so I wanted to give back to the band and the community that inspired me.
I guess I should tell y'all my story of falling in love with Muse. I first heard "Knights of Cydonia" on Guitar Hero III (also where my interest in guitar began) and "SMBH" on the Twilight soundtrack, which I didn't like except for that opening track. In 2013 my mom bought BH&R and a few tracks from Absolution and The Resistance. I was hesitant at first (I am quite cautious about what bands I get interested in) because "Take a Bow" was the first track and a lyrically jarring one at that, especially for a guy who had really only known The Beatles before that. After a few more listens, I was hooked. I used birthday money to buy (in order, based on rough recollection) the rest of Absolution and The Resistance, OoS, Showbiz, The 2nd Law, Hullabaloo Soundtrack, Live at Rome Olympic Stadium, and Drones. In the summer of 2016, I began to scour the dark web (YouTube) for the b-sides I was missing, since all except the ones from Absolution, BH&R, and Hullabaloo are not available in the US iTunes store, and for the best live versions.
In the summer of 2017, I saw my first two Muse concerts as graduation gifts: one in Nashville at the Ascend Amphitheater, the other in St. Louis at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre. While deep cuts (or at least semi-deep cuts) would have made them even more incredible, they were both amazing experiences that I wouldn't trade for anything. In March 2019 I saw them again in Atlanta, which was maybe even more amazing! (My parents and other attendees praised it as one of the best concerts they have ever seen.)
Since senior year of high school I have been expanding my musical palate beyond Muse. My "Awesome Mix" now consists of Alice in Chains, Audioslave, Deftones, Extreme, Foo Fighters, Gojira, Metallica, Muse, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Primus, Rage Against the Machine, Slayer, Sleep, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, System Of A Down, and Velvet Revolver. Muse, however, is still one of my absolute favorites, and I will always be indebted to them. They have also been influential in my burgeoning song-writing style and instructional in performance and music theory techniques.
