Uniondale Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum
The Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, also known simply as the Nassau Coliseum or The Coliseum, is a multi-purpose indoor arena in Uniondale, New York. The venue is located next to the Meadowbrook Parkway, 11km east of the Borough of Queens. The arena opened in 1972, and is built on the site of the former Army airfield and later Air Force base. The arena underwent expansions in years 1976 and 1983 and was closed in 2015 for two years for renovations, opening again in 2017. The arena was designed by Welton Becket and Associates. The arena's current maximum capacity is 16,800.
The Nassau Coliseum is the home arena to New York Islanders of NHL, the Long Island Nets of NBA G League, New York Open of ATP AND New York Riptide of NLL. Former tennants include the New York Nets of ABA/NBA, New York Dragons of AFL and New York Arrows of MISL. The arena hosted various major league games including the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament in 1982, 1984 and 2001 and the 35th National Hockey League All-Star Game in 1983. In 2017, the arena hosted UFC on Fox: Weidman vs. Gastelum. In 2018, it hosted the New York Open, an ATP 250 tennis tournament which replaced the Memphis Open. Artists who performed in the arena include Elvis Presley, The Beach Boys, Metallica, Blue Man Group, Queen, David Bowie, Awolnation, Bob Dylan, The Lonely Island, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Jacksons, John Mayer and more.
In April of 2013, Muse were set to perform in the arena but had to cancel the gig due to scheduling conflicts.
