The stadium

Seoul Olympic Stadium (Korean: 서울올림픽주경기장; also known as Jamsil Olympic Stadium) is a multi-purpose stadium located in Seoul, South Korea. Designed by Korean architect Kim Swoo-geun, he stadium officially opened in 1984 and was built for the 1988 Summer Olympics and the 10th Asian Games in 1986, as the two existing stadiums, the Dongdaemun Stadium and Hyochang Stadium, with capacities of less than 40,000 each, were deemed to small for large world-class sporting events. The stadium is part of and the centerpiece of the Seoul Sports Complex. The stadium's originally capacity sat at 100,000 but it now seats 69,950 people.

The stadium is now primarily used for football. It was the former home of the South Korea national football team (before they moved to the Seoul World Cup Stadium), the Seoul United football club and is the current home of the Seoul E-Land football club. The stadium hosted several league games aswell as national games. The stadium also hosted the 2013 EAFF East Asian Cup. During the olympics, the stadium held the opening and closing ceremonies, athletics, equestrian jumping final and football finals. Since the 90s, the stadium also paid host to several concerts by artists such as Elton John, Metallica, Eminem, Lady Gaga, Roger Waters, Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney and more. The stadium has also hosted a few festivals, including the Hyundai Card Super Concert.
