Rio de Janeiro Parque Olímpico Cidade do Rock
Parque Olímpico Cidade do Rock (English: City of Rock Olympic Park), also known as Parque dos Atletas (Park of the Athletes) or simply just the New City of Rock, is a park and an open-air events venue, located in the neighbourhood of Barra da Tijuca in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The park is most known for hosting the Rock in Rio music festival.
The Parque Olímpico Cidade do Rock was built in 2010, next to the Riocentro exhibition centre and the original Cidade do Rock, which was built in 1985, specifically for the Rock in Rio festival. The latter one has seen many expansions after that. In 2007, the area became one of the venues for the 2007 Pan American Games and was called the "Complexo Esportivo Cidade do Rock" (City of Rock Sports Complex). Two temporary stadiums for baseball and softball with capacities of 30,000 and 2,000 were erected at the site. In 2016, the Olympic Village for the 2016 Summer Olympics were built on the site.
Apart from Rock in Rio, the venue has also hosted standalone tour gigs, including performances by artists such as Lady Gaga, Red Hot Chili Peppers, One Direction and Madonna.
