Philadelphia Wells Fargo Center
Wells Fargo Center is an indoor multi-purpose arena, located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Opened in 1996, the arena was designed by Ellerbe Becket and was previously reffered to as Spectrum II, CoreStates Center since the opening and until 1998, First Union Center until 2003 and Wachovia Center until 2010. Since then, it has been named Wells Fargo Center, after the financial company, who merged with Wachovia. The maximum capacity of the arena sits just under 20,500. The Wells Fargo Center is operated by Comcast Spectacor. In 2005, the arena set a record for the highest attendance for an indoor hockey game in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania and has also set a record for the highest attendance for an indoor basketball game in the commonwealth of Pnnsylvania in 2017.
The Wells Fargo center currently is undergoing the so-called "Transformation 2020" initiative. In 2019, a new kinetic 4K scoreboard was installed. The arena also unveiled the Center City Club, a premium area intended for selected ticketholders. The center also revealed two sportsbook lounges, open to all visitors, which feature a bar, televisions, seating areas and odds boards. The lounges are built as part of the partnership with Rivers Casino Philadelphia.
The arena is home to Philadelphia Flyers of NHL and Philadelphia 76ers of NBA, aswell as Philadelphia Wings of NLL and Villanova Wildcats of NCAA College Basketball. It is former home to Philadelphia Phantoms of AHL and Philadelphia Soul of AFL. With that, the arena has hosted numerous major league games spanning over hockey and basketball to lacrosse. Some sporting events that took place in the arena include the 1997 and 2010 Stanley Cup Finals, several NCAA basketball tournaments, the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, a few WWE events and a couple UFC events, to name a few. Musical artists who performed in the arena include Ray Charles, The Manic Street Preachers, Tool, Guns n' Roses, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Adele, Ariana Grande and more. Wells Fargo center also hosted the 2019 Overwatch League Grand Finals, the 2000 Republican National Convention and the 2016 Democratic National Convention.
