A video interview with Matthew Bellamy and Dominic Howard prior to the Royal Albert Hall 2008 gig. This transcription may be inaccurate.
Matthew Bellamy: It's my first time here, beautiful place, absolutely amazing and uh, uh my dad's played here three times before actually, weirdly enough but um, but yeah. It's uh, it's overwhelming really, it's uh, one of the most famous venues in the world I think an' so it's a great honour to be here.
Dominic Howard: Yeah, it's my first time here but, as you can probably see behind us, you know, it's really beautiful. You can probably just see a load of lights flashing right now, but it's like really ornate you know, it's like really beautiful an' uh,
B: Can you see it?
H: ...it's great to play here an', these kind of venues are when you've got people all, all around you an' tonight we've got people right behind us as well, which is gonna be cool.
[...]
B: I think when the band first formed, I mean you know, our ambition was to play like, the pub down the road, do you know what I mean so, I don't, I don't think we had uh, uh sort of ambitions this grandiose, but it's definitely uh, yeah it's definitely something over the last year that we felt would be.... Well, Roger Daltry asked us to play a few years ago and we couldn't do it an' uh he's... we'd sort of promised that we'd play here basically, so this is the first year we've been available to do it, so, so yeah, but over the past couple of years it's been a bit of a, bit of an ambition to play here, yeah. [...] It goes to uh, you know, giving quality of live to people, you know an' it's uh, it's uh, I think there's quite a lot, quite a lot of people coming down tonight that we're gonna meet that I think are part of the trust you know, so you know I'm looking forward to meeting them...
H: Mm.
B: ...an' I think uh, if Rogers patron for it, then it surely must be uh, something uh, something good.
[...]
H: It's great you know, they're raising so much money for it and this particular event is rag... raising so much money as well an' they're building like, you know, these units in hospitals for uh, for patients to uh, to be in these units an' they're costing lots of money you know an' uh, just doing these concerts alone over the last few years has like; built three units or something, which is like six million quid or something, so I mean it's, it's really doing a lot for it, it's great.
[...]
H: Hopefully Matt's gonna try and play the organ.
B: I'm gonna try, I've, I've got the fear though, I keep looking 'round and I'm just looking at the organ and it's just...
H: ...It's very overwhelming,...
B: ...it's quite....
H: ...it's so big.
B: Yeah, it's so... and it's so loud as well...
H: [laughs]
B: ...an' I know if I hit a bum note it's gonna be like; you know, everyone's gonna go; 'Oh, no', 'cause when you hit a bum note on an organ, it's like a nightmare an' I can't, I only just, I only just tried to learn the part today really, 'cause we haven't played this song for ages an' I haven't really done a version of it on the organ, so uh, we're gonna sound check it in a minute and if it goes [laughs] hopefully if it goes well we'll do that tonight...
H: Mm.
B: ...an' uh, yeah, we might play sort of, one or two random songs we haven't played for a while you know, but apart from that I think we'll, you know, play a pretty uh, a pretty straight rocking set I think.
[...]
H: V Festival is gonna be fun, I think an' uh, we're definitely gonna be doing some uh.... A bigger show, as well an' um, we'll see. I mean, it'd be nice get some uh, other musicians involved as well for that one you know, we've been talking about maybe getting, doing something with some sort of orchestra type stuff, you know that could be good, um, but you know, it's definitely gonna, it's a big festival, so we've got to do a big show an' kind of push the boat out an' uh, it's gonna be wicked.
