Lyon Groupama Stadium
Groupama Stadium, also known as Parc Olympique Lyonnais is (primarily) a football stadium in the commune of Décines-Charpieu, located in Lyon, France. The plans for the stadium were presented in 2008 by Olympique Lyonnais president Jean-Michel Aulas. Designed by Populous, the stadium began construction in 2013 and it opened in January of 2016, with it costing 480 million Euros. It's capacity sits at 59,186 and it is both owned and operated by OL Groupe. The stadium is named after the French insurance company of the same name.
Since it's opening, the stadium's been the home ground to Olympique Lyonnais football club. It's also been the home ground to the French national football team for selected matches. In 2009, the French Football Federation chose the stadium as one of the twelve stadiums to be used in France's bidding for UEFA Euro 2016. With the country winning the bid, it hosted six games of the tournament. The stadium hosted the 2017 French football cup final and the 2018 UEFA Europa League Final. Additionally, the stadium was one of the sporting venues to host matches during the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup, and is also set to be a venue for football during the 2024 Summer Olympics. Apart from football, the Groupama Stadium also held several rugby and ice hockey matches, paying host to events like the European Rugby Champions Cup and European Rugby Challenge Cup in 2016.
The Grouapama Stadium also held concerts by artists like Will.I.Am, who performed after the inaugural match in 2016, Coldplay, Rihanna, Rammstein, The Rolling Stones and more.
