London Brixton Academy
The Brixton Academy is a mid-sized music venue in Brixton, South London, with a capacity of 4,921. It was built in 1929 at a cost of £250,000 as the largest of four "Astoria" theatres.[1] Previously named the 'Carling Academy Brixton',[1] the venue has been the called 'O2 Academy Brixton' since 2009, due to O2 purchasing the naming rights for the venue.[2][3]
The venue has hosted many artists both big and small over it's history, and has been voted the NME 'Venue of the Year' 12 times since 1994. However, recent years have seen the venue fall on some dark times, namely due to a crowd-crush incident at an Asake show in 2022, which resulted in several people becoming seriously injured - with two later dying of their injuries - leading to the venue temporarily closing for 16 months and almost losing it's licence. A gig by singer-songwriter Sombr in March 2026 also lead to increased scrutinity, after he declared the venue "the most poorly managed venue I've ever performed at in my life".
Muse performed at the venue four times during their earlier years - twice as a support act, and twice as a headliner. Almost 25 years later, they performed another headlining show in April 2026.
