Las Vegas MGM Grand Garden Arena
The MGM Grand Garden Arena (formerly known as the MGM Grand Garden Special Events Center and the MGM Grand Sports Center during construction) is an indoor multi-purpose arena, located within the MGM Grand hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. The arena opened in 1993, designed by Veldon Simpson-Architect, Inc., and renovated in 1997 and 2000. Between 1993 and 2016, when the MGM co-owned T-Mobile arena opened, the Garden Arena, together with the Thomas & Mack Center, served as the main sports arena in Las Vegas. The arena's seating capacity sits at 17,000.
The MGM Grand Garden Arena is former home to the Las Vegas Dustdevils of CISL, Las Vegas Sting of AFL and Frozen Fury of NHL. As such, it has hosted a few major league games. In 2014, the Sacramento Kings and the LA Lakers played a pre-season game in the arena. In 2012, the arena hosted the Pac-12 Men's Basketball Tournament. Between 1996 and 2000, the arena paid host to World Championship Wrestling's Halloween Havoc events, while in 2019, it hosted the All Elite Wrestling's Double or Nothing event. Since 2001, the arena has also hosted 42 UFC events. In 2015, Floyd Mayweather Jr. defeated Manny Pacquiao, defending his world title.
The arena is current home of the Latin Grammy Awards, hosting them in 2014 and 2015 and between 2017 and 2019. It's also the current home of the Academy of Country Music Awards, hosting the show 12 times since 2006. Between 2011 and 2015, the arena hosted the iHeartRadio Music Festival, before it was moved to the former so-called Las Vegas Village festival grounds. Some musical acts that performed at the MGM Grand Garden Arena include Tina Turner, The Bee Gees, Aerosmith, Eagles, Sting, The Killers, Hugh Jackman, Black Sabbath, Bruno Mars, Elton John and more.
