Muse were being very uncommunicative. They looked knackered, almost as if they were close to the point of having been squeezed dry, yet they still threw out the rawk moves and darling little Matt Bellamy's vocal arabesques were as accomplished as ever.
The squall of 'Cave', which saw a rate of crowdsurfing that could have almost matched Idlewild's on Friday, was offset by the cheeky, almost choral 'Unintended'. But the fizz and fury and unquestionable skill somehow weren't enough to make this a real "occasion." Glastonbury demands more, and sadly Muse fell short tonight. The traditional set-closer, 'Showbiz' seemed to be more menacing though, growing more thunderous and portentous with every rendition. Come the end, the three of them descended into playground scuffling, collapsing the drumkit and play-fighting behind the amps. Which, sadly, got the biggest cheer of the whole set.But surely the gold records presented to them, marking 104,000 record sales in the UK, as they tumbled offstage must have made it all worthwhile.
