DeVotchKa are an American four-piece gypsy punk, folk and dark cabaret ensemble, hailing from Denver, Colorado. The band is made up from multi-instrumentalists Nick Urata (vocals, theremin, guitar, bouzouki, piano, trumpet), Tom Hagerman (violin, accordion, piano), Jeanie Schroder (vocals, sousaphone, double bass, flute) and Shawn King (percussion, trumpet). The band's name comes from the Russian world for "girl" - "devochka" (девочка).

The band started out in the 1990s, and were originally a backing band for burlesque shows. They toured with famous burlesque performer Dita Von Teese, and, at the same time, worked on their own music and performed their own gigs, releasing three albums. The gigs gained them a larger following through the years. Their 2004 single, "How It Ends" from the album of the same title, was used in the trailer for Everything Is Illuminated, in an episode of Everwood, and in a Gears of War 2 video game trailer. This introduced the band to an even wider audience.

In 2006, the band performed at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. The performance is considered as their breakout event. The same year, they were chosen to write music for the movie Little Miss Sunshine, an Academy Award-nominated movie, starring Steve Carrell, Paul Dano and Abigail Breslin. The entire score composed mostly by them, with additional score composed by Mychael Danna, earned them a 2006 Grammy Award nomination under the "Best Compilation Soundtrack" category. In 2008 and 2011 the band went on to released two more albums. Their latest album, "This Night Falls Forever", was released in 2018.

DeVotchKa supported Muse during The Resistance Stadium Tour, at the Stade de France gig on June 12th, 2010.
