Red Hot Chili Peppers
Foo Fighters
Muse
The concert (which took place on Thursday, March 30th, 2000 at the Ervin J. Nutter Center in Dayton) started at 7pm. I went there for the Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chili Peppers, but they added another band - Muse.
This is Muse. Nice looking aren't they?
Muse only got to play for a half hour, but, from what I heard, they were good. They have a couple CDs out and aren't exactly high priority stuff in the United States. From what I've seen, they are in the Top 40 in the UK, so I guess they're bigger over there! But they have a good chance of really kicking some music butt. I think they really need to sit in a music studio, tune their instruments up, mature their lyrics, and work on their performing faces a little bit longer. Otherwise, they were pretty good!
Foo Fighters! Gotta love those quirky lookin' folks.
The Foo Fighters were really, really good. Way better than I expected them to be. They played all the songs they're famous for and all the songs the crowd wanted to hear. They were awesome showmen too. At one point, Dave Grohl was wailin' away on a solo (somewhere near the end) he got down and (surrounded by security guards) walked around the floor, playing. All these people were getting hit down by the guards, while Dave never missed a beat, he was just walking and didn't have a care on his face. I'm sure the security guards love when they have to do that. Well, anyway, he made it all the way around and back up on the opposite side of the stage. It's kind of cool when performers do that. It's a way of interacting with the crowd, especially when you're the shy geeky guy, like Grohl. The only speaking he did all night that wasn't singing was when he said "Hello to all those beautiful people who were lucky enough to get floor seats. And hello to all the beautiful people who got stuck in seats. For this song and this song only I'd like to invite you down to the floor... yeah, and I want to butt-fuck all the child molesters too. Sit back down!" It was pretty funny. They really jammed and had great music (although at some parts, Grohl got obsessed with how much he could scream during the songs instead of singing) and if they're coming to your town, try to see them! It's worth the ticket price.
Red Hot Chili Peppers, the headliners of the night, have come a long way since their LA rave club days.
Red Hot Chili Peppers were the headliners of the entire concert and now it's obvious why. They were so much better than Muse and the Foo Fighters in their stage performance. They really rocked and everyone was just really into it. They interacted a LOT more than the other two, which made them better to begin with. Kiedis was fairly quiet except when singing, while Flea kept saying just silly things into the microphone. About halfway through the concert, Flea leaned right into the microphone and said "This is my last night with the Red Hot Chili Peppers... I'm going to join N Sync!" I have never seen an entire crowd start booing so loudly so quickly. He laughed and Kiedis was like "oh god..." Another great moment. They played all the songs we wanted to hear (like "Under the Bridge" (My Absolute Fav!) "Give It Away" and "Scar Tissue") while playing a couple old unknown songs. And, since this was their Californication tour, they jammed out a lot of new songs from their new album, which, from what I've heard is really good! I definitely recommend picking up some of their CDs. They have some good shit that doesn't get the radio air-time it rightfully deserves. And who could forget while the guitarists jammed, Kiedis just jumps up on the amps, which had to be at least 5 feet. He just jumped up there and got all comfy, which was cute. Speaking of cute, Mr. Kiedis needs his old hair back. It looked so much better before!
