Columbus Nationwide Arena
Built on the site of the former Ohio Penitentiary (specifically, it's parking lot), the Nationwide Arena is a multi-purpose indoor arena in the Arena District of Columbus, Ohio. It opened in 2000, and has, ever since, been the home to NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets. The arena is named after its original majority owner, Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company, who sold the facility to the Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority, who are their current owner, in 2012. It's operated by the Columbus Arena Management, previously operated by the Blue Jackets until 2012. It's capacity is 20,000 for concerts, 19,500 for basketball and 18,500 for ice hockey games.
Apart from NHL games, the arena is also one of the two venues (the other one being the Greater Columbus Convention Center) to host events during the well-known sports and fitness event, Arnold Classic, hosted by Arnold Schwarzenegger, and is also an annual host venue for Ohio High School Athletic Association's state championship. In the past, the Nationwide Arena paid host to many sporting events such as the PBR's Built Ford Tough Series bull riding event between 2000 and 2012, the 2015 National Hockey League All-Star Game, the Monster Jam in 2021, the Kellogg's Tour of Gymnastics Champions in 2016, and it also hosted several WWE events. Musical acts who performed inside the arena include Iron Maiden, Tool, Blue Man Group, Rush, Elton John and more. In 2012, Barack Obama held a campaign rally, inviting Bruce Springsteen and Jay-Z.
