Cincinnati Heritage Bank Center
Heritage Bank Center is an indoor multi-purpose arena located in Cincinnati, along the banks of the Ohio River, next to the Great American Ball Park. The arena's former names include Riverfront Coliseum, The Crown, Firstar Center and U.S. Bank Arena. The arena was opened in 1975, designed by an architectural firm called Pattee Architects, Inc., and was renovated two times, in 1997 and in 2015. During the first renovation, seating was replaced, concourses and restrooms were improved and concession areas were expanded. A new video-board was also installed. The second renovation brought, once again, upgrades to seating and capacity expansion, addition of new luxury suites and premium seating, a new exterior facade, new video-boards and renovation of the exterior concourse. The arena's current capacity sits at 17,556 and is the largest arena in the Greater Cincinnati region.
The Heritage Bank Center is the home arena to Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL. Former tennants include the Cincinnati Stingers of WHA, Cincinnati Bearcats of NCAA, Cincinnati Kids of MISL, Cincinnati Tigers of CHL, Cincinnati Silverbacks of NPSL, Cincinnati Stuff of IBL, Cincinnati Swarm and Jungle Kats of AF2 and Cincinnati Marshalls of NIFL. Sporting events that the arena hosted include several NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament games, the 1997 NCAA Women's Division I Basketball Championship Final Four and the 2017 NCAA Division I Ice Hockey Midwest Regional. The arena also hosted part of the 1981 and 1992 Horizon League men's basketball conferences, the 1978 and 1983 Metro Conferences and the 2002 and 2004 Conference USA basketball tournaments. In 2000 and 2006, the venue hosted two larger pay-per-view wrestling events; the World Champion Wrestling Souled Out and WWE's Cyber Sunday. In 2012, the arena hosted opening and closing ceremonies of the World Choir Games.
Some of the musical acts that performed inside the arena include Bruce Springsteen, ZZ Top, Metallica, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Pearl Jam, The Black Keys and more. In 1979, the arena hosted a sold-out concert by The Who, at which 11 people died from compressive asphyxia with 26 other people injured in a rush for seating. Seats for the concert were available at a first-come first-served basis. During the soundcheck, fans thought the concert was beginning and tried to rush into the still-closed doors. The event prompted venues across North America to switch to reserved seating and changing rules about festival seating.
