Boss DD-3
The Boss DD-3 Digital Delay is a 12-bit digital delay guitar stompbox, produced and sold by the Boss Corporation (not to be confused with the fashion company or the cigarette brand), a pedal manufacturer and division of Roland Corporation.
The DD-3 features three delay time modes and a Delay Time control for quick delay time adjustment between 12.5 miliseconds and 800 miliseconds. The pedal also features a "Hold" function, which repeats the sound indefinitely, providing an interesting sonic effect.
The first version of the DD-3 was born somewhere in the late 1980s, after the price of the digital delay chip used in the Boss DD-2 dropped drastically, forcing Boss to improove and re-release the new facelifted pedal as the DD-3. Despite the chip price drop, the DD-2 and version 1 of DD-3's circuitboards were still too expensive to make, so Boss redesigned the circuitboard again, and the DD-3 version 2 was born. Version 2 got a minor improvement with the top of the circuit board being redesigned to fit the then-new internal adapter jack. The latest, third version, features a double-sided circuitboard, as opposed to previous circuitboards being only single-sided. Boss also made improvements to the speed and the ease of manufacturing.
Chris used a Boss DD-3 live and in the studio pedalboard between Showbiz and Black Holes & Revelations tours. The pedal was also displayed in the so-called "MUSEum", a display of the history of Muse and their gear used through their history. This display toured with Muse on both Drones and North American Summer Amphitheatre tours in 2016 and 2017.
