Adelaide Adelaide Entertainment Centre
Adelaide Entertainment Centre (abbreviated as AEC) is an indoor arena, located in Adelaide, South Australia. The arena is used for sporting and entertainment events. The arena was established by the Government of South Australia (who is also it's owner) after a rising demand from the people of South Australia for a suitable venue for international entertainment and sport as the Apollo Stadium, with it's capacity of 3,500, was considered being too small. The AEC opened in 1990. It's capacity sits at 11,300. AEC is operated by the Adelaide Entertainments Corporation.
In 2007, AEC's $52 million upgrade plans were passed. The renovation included major upgrades to the foyer, corporate and administration facilities and the backstage area, inclusion of additional parking spaces, new staging and curtains and the restoration of the Revelations Chapel for use as a wedding venue. 8000 additional seats were also installed in the arena. One of the arena's prominent features is the glow-up roof above the deck in front of the arena, known as "The Orb", aswell as the red star accompanying it.
AEC is the home arena of Adelaide Thunderbirds of ANZ/NNL, aswell as Adelaide 36ers of NBL. The arena hosted two ANZ Championship grand finals in 2010 and 2013, two opening games of the 2012 Holden Netball Quad-Series. Since 2004, WWE is using the venue for the Adelaide leg of the Australian tours. Musical artists who performed at the AEC include Cher, Kylie Minogue, Tool, Bruce Springsteen, Iron Maiden, Cliff Richard, Adam Lambert and more.
