MuseWiki, wiki for the band Muse
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Hi MuseWikians!

I'm Ade and I'm new around these parts (joined in Nov 2014). I may, eventually, get around to writing something interesting here.

I'm British and live and work in Switzerland. I'm also a guitarist and have played in loads of totally unknown bands over the years, both in the UK and here in Switzerland.

My to do list

  • My principle interest is tablature and I intend to work to improve this where it is needed.
  • Gig navigation needs some work - we have loads of categories and a tree structure, but it isn't evident when viewing a gig page.
  • Flesh out some of the subsidiary content, eg venue pages, etc.
  • Seek and destroy (or rather fix) dead links
  • Clean up spellings when I find them.

Gigs Reconciliation Jan 2015

Decided to reconcile the Main Gigs page listings with the various categories currently in use, namely Gigs by country and Gigs in location, to make sure that we have correctly categorised all the gigs. Thanks to the Gigbox template, this categorisation is taken care of automatically and will result in a correct categorisation (unless there is a location or country error in the Gigbox). However, quite a few gig pages do not use the Gigbox, and therefore this automatic categorisation doesn't take place.

Here's what I did:

  1. Copied all the 1991 to 2014 gig template contents into a spreadsheet
  2. In my spreadsheet, added additional columns for Year, Redlink and Cancelled so that I could filter the data as required.
    1. Year is useful for sorting as some dates are incomplete, eg 1996-10-??, so are treated by Excel as text rather than a date.
    2. Redlink gigs will not appear in any of the gig categories, cos the gig pages don't exist, so I added a flag in the relevant rows in my spreadsheet.
    3. Cancelled gigs do not get categoried either (as per the Gigbox code), so these too needed to be flagged.
  3. I decided to ignore 2015 as this list is still being added to and there is still updating going on with these gigs.

Results so far:

  1. Total number of Gig template gigs = 1306
    1. 1991 = 2
    2. 1992 = 1
    3. 1993 = 1
    4. 1994 = 6
    5. 1995 = 14
    6. 1996 = 4
    7. 1997 = 33
    8. 1998 = 20 (Redlink = 2)
    9. 1999 = 147 (Redlink =12)
    10. 2000 = 146 (Redlink = 42)
    11. 2001 = 120 (Redlink = 12)
    12. 2002 = 38
    13. 2003 = 53
    14. 2004 = 147 (Redlink = 2) (Cancelled = 4)
    15. 2005 = 23
    16. 2006 = 106 (Cancelled = 2)
    17. 2007 = 111 (Cancelled = 10)
    18. 2008 = 17
    19. 2009 = 56
    20. 2010 = 101 (Cancelled = 4)
    21. 2011 = 18
    22. 2012 = 42 (Cancelled = 3)
    23. 2013 = 96 (Cancelled = 1)
    24. 2014 = 4 (Cancelled = 1)
    25. Total = 1306
  2. Total number of Redlink gigs = 70
  3. Total number of Cancelled gigs = 25
  4. None of the Cancelled gigs are also Redlinks

From this raw data:

  1. Exclude Redlinks and Cancelled gigs, ie 70 + 25 = 95 to be excluded
  2. Theoretical number of gigs categorised by country and location should be 1306 - 95 = 1211, based on Gig/year boxes on Main Gigs page

To be continued...
