The Smashing Pumpkins are a heavy sounding American Alternative Rock Band formed in Chicago, 1988. The band was foudned by Billy Corgan (Lead Vocals, Lead Guitar, Song and Lyric writer), James Iha (Rhythm Guitar), D'arcy Wretzky (bass), and Jimmy Chamberlin (Drums). As of 2018, the band consists of Corgan, Iha, Chamberlin, and guitarist Jeff Schroeder.

The band may have been one of Muse's earlier influences, however in 2005 Bellamy told Keyboardmag;

"Smashing Pumpkins, even though they’re not piano-based. I always found their arrangements interesting, like on the album, Siamese Dream."

The opening riff in the Smashing Pumpkin's song 'Silverfuck' has a resemblance to the riff in Dead Star.

In Chicago, at the Aragon Ballrom, 2018/12/10 gig, Muse covered the songs "Cherub Rock" and "Quiet" as an instrumental jam, the Smashing Pumkins Jam, and "Zero" briefly in the Metal medley.
