Pittsburgh PPG Paints Arena
The PPG Paints Arena, formerly known as Consol Energy Center (or CEC), is a multi-purpose indoor arena, located in the downtown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After Mario Lemieux bouth the Pittsburgh Pengiuns in 1999, he soon began searching for a replacement for the Pittsburgh Civic Arena, the oldest arena used for NHL at that time. The PPG Paints Arena (then CEC) was built in 2010 by architectural companies Astorino, Architectural Innovations, Populous, Fukui Architects and Lami Grubb. The arena's capaciy sits approximately between 14,536 and 19,758.
The arena is home to the Pittsburgh Penguins of NHL and is the former home to Pittsburgh Power of AFL, who were in the arena until 2014, when the ownership decided to cease the operations. The arena hosted several NHL games, including the opening game between the Penguins and the Detroit Red Wings. In 2016, the arena hosted its first Stanley Cup Finals when Penguins defeating the San Jose Sharks. The venue also hosted the 2013 NCAA Frozen Four aswell as non-hockey games from the AFL and basketball games, like the 2012 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament. In 2016, the arena hosted the Kellog's Tour of Gymnastics Champions while in 2019 NCAA Division I men's wrestling championship.
Musical artists who performed at the arena include Paul McCartney, Rush, Roger Waters, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga, amongst others.
