Ghinzu
Ghinzu is an alternative rock band founded in 1999 in Brussels, Belgium. The band consists of John "Stargasm" Israel (vocals/keyboards), Michael "Mika Nagazaki" Salvatore Hasson (bass), Gregory Phillip Remy (guitars), Jean Waterlot (guitars, keyboards) and Antoine Michel (drums). The name comes from a popular brand of informercial knifes that could cut through cans and were popular back in the late 90s.
The band released their first album in 2000 called Electronic Jacuzzi. It prominently featured elements of noise rock mixed in with groovy rhytmic and electronic touches. The album was only released in Belgium. Their second album called Blow was released in 2004. The album, especially the single Do You Read Me? became a hit in Belgium and France. The album was enough for them to sell out Olympia music hall in Paris in 2005, followed by a number of gigs around Europe. In 2006, they wrote the soundtrack for the movie Irina Palm, released in 2007. Songs from Blow were used throughout the following years for various movies, most famous of which is Taken, where The Dragster-Wave was used in the credits. It also allowed Ghinzu to reach a wider audience around the world. In 2009, they release their third album, Mirror Mirror. In 2011, Israel revealed that the band was working on new material, allthough nothing has been heard since then. They had however continued to play live gigs.
They supported Muse during The 2010 Summer Tour as part of The Resistance Tour. They appeared at the Goffertpark gig.
