The Canal+ stage built on the Martinez Beach

La Plage du Martinez (Martinez Beach) is a beach area in Cannes, France, owned by the Martinez Hotel, located across the road from the beach area. It features a bar with a restaurant and a long pier with deck chairs.

La Plage du Martinez used to play host to Canal+'s (French TV channel) production of the music show Le Grand Journal De Cannes, which was filmed annually at the beach site. The production included a stage/platform for the studio scenography, accompanied by a transparent roof, allowing the natural light to come through.

Muse performed at La Plage du Martinez two times, in 2000 and 2013, both times on the afforementioned TV show. In 2000, Bellamy notoriously threw the guitar and the amps down from the stage. With camera angles only showing the sea and not the beach below the stage, it was thought he threw the equipment into the water, however in an interview, Bellamy mentioned he threw it on the sand, with the infamous spinning disk guitar being recovered.
