Muse
Both Matthew Bellamy and Dominic Howard saw the Red Hot Chili Peppers at Reading festival when they were in the range of 15 and 16 years old,[1] which Bellamy claimed contributed to him thinking that headlining a festival is the "top" of being a live band.[2] Later, Muse supported the Red Hot Chili peppers for a series of gigs in 1999, during which a number of Origin of Symmetry songs took shape.[3]
Of their support leg, the band have stated that it was through watching them perform, which they did every night, Muse's outlook on performing live changed. The caused, in part, Muse to become less embarrassed about themselves[4] and less introverted[5] on stage.[4] Dominic Howard claimed on the part of Muse to be inspired by the Red Hot Chili Peppers concentrating on their music despite the hectic happenings around them.[6]
The members of Muse have also made numerous miscellaneous references to the Red Hot Chili Peppers. For instance, in 2004 Bellamy said "U2 or Chili Peppers" in response to being questioned which was the best musical act in the world at that time.[7] Blood Sugar Sex Magik was one of Christopher Wolstenholme's favourite albums to play along with in December 2006,[8] while Bellamy named Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea one of the members he'd chose for starting a new band.[9]
