Description

Upbeat song, simple drums.

The song employs an almost surf-riff guitar with a looping bass.

Additional information

Originally listed on the set list as Swiss Rhapsody. It was rumoured to be the first single of Black Holes and Revelations, but this was denied by the band. Also played at Earls Court and during the following American tour. It was one of the four "new" songs bootlegged by fans.

This is one of Muse's songs which indicates a skepticism concerning the ability of religion, or here "gods", to effect change. (Compare to Fury.)

Trivia

Crying Shame is the only Muse studio song with swearing in aside from the Starlight DVD's hidden track, although an early live version of Futurism had swearing in it.

Lyrics

Too late
Yeah baby it's too late
And time has made the spell abate
And now it's time to desecrate

But we had a dream
And it was meant to be
And we were kissing gods
Against all the odds

Now it's a crying shame
And it's a crying shame
We don't know who to blame
It'll never be the same
And it's a crying shame

Too much
We demolish too much
And (yeah) we've really fucked it up
Yeah baby you lost your touch

But we had a dream
And it was meant to be
And we were kissing gods
Against all the odds

Now it's a crying shame
And it's a crying shame
You don't know who to blame
It'll never be the same
And it's a crying shame

And it's a crying shame

2004/2005 tour

Too Late
You finished too late
And you’ve come to imitate
All the stories of how I fail

You had a dream
And it was meant to be
When you were kissing God
Against all the odds...

Now it's Crying Shame
And it's Crying Shame
That the whole world
Forever be the same
And it's crying ...

Too much
You’ve been coming to what
And I’ve been waiting for too long
And you my baby I say so-long

You had a dream
And it was meant to be
When you were kissing God
Against all the odds...

Nooo
Because it’s a crying shame
And it’s a crying shame
That this whole world
Forever be the same

And it's crying shame
That this whole world
Forever be the same.
