The Roland VG-8 is a guitar modeling system that models many popular guitars and stomp-box effects. It also has a pitch shifter (can be used to "change" the guitars tuning to open tunings, drop tunings, etc without tuning the strings).

The VG-8 get it's signal from a GK-2a pickup built into two of his Manson guitars. The most obvious example is the 'trumpet' solo during Darkshines.

It is almost certain that the VG-8's intelligent pitch shifter has been used to harmonize the main guitar on Muscle Museum.
