musewire was was the name of Muse' Twitter account,[1] before changing it to muse.[2]

musewire

On the 21st of May 2008, Sam Sparrow set up a sub-forum on the official Muse board entitled "Muse need you..."[3] along with nine poll questions for board members to vote on. These polls concerned two topics; band to fan communication and future releases. More specifically, the medium of future releases, the digital formats, as well as frequency of communication and means thereof.[4]

After a clear mean preference among those who voted for more communication as opposed to less or the same (589:45 as of June 2nd),[5] a news feed entitled "musewire" was set up on the 30th of May.[6] However, despite Twitter being one of the least preferred websites through which to communicate, with only one vote as of June the 2nd compared to Facebook's 208 as of the same day,[7] Twitter was used.[6]

Soon after the account was set up, criticism was voiced concerning the posts thus far not being the band members' writings, but instead an extension of regular news updates. [8][9][10] However it became apparent that the band would indeed be using the service to post updates when Dominic Howard posted the first band member update on 4th June, concerning the development of new songs.[11][12] musewire was later moved to muse on the 16th of August 2009.[2]

Those who wish to keep up to date with muse twitter posts can either sign up for mobile phone text messages, or subscribe to the RSS or Atom syndication feeds.
