This could very well be the title of the '15-minute orchestral' track. Non-orchestral pieces are not set to score I believe (ever noticed how the 'official scores' don't match the songs? well there you have it, they might have been 'official' but not 'original') and Matt looked very keen showing them off. Although nothing is certain, it is the most logical assumption at this point that it is the three part orchestral track.

I hear ''can't''. There's no actual T sound, because there's a [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glottal_stop glottal stop] instead, same as how most British English speakers would say "can't be", unless they were taking care to emphasize it (try saying it out loud yourself!). Also compare it to the way Matt says ''can't'' in Can't Take My Eyes Off You. And that's my pronunciation lesson for today :) [[User:I like sleeping|I like sleeping]] 00:30, 16 July 2009 (BST)

== 2001 St. Malo ==
OK, I realise this is up to people's opinion, but I seriously doubt that this is based off that riff after Cave at St. Malo 2001. I've been meaning to edit that page until I get a more substantial evidence, but the riff after Cave is really a version/jam of Nature_1. The scales are very similar (if not identical) and the ending is identical (perhaps in a different key). I'll find out what notes they are, etc. when time permits, but I'm almost absolutely sure. ==Clicking==
That video of clicking fingers in the toilet isn't the same as the clicking in USoE. This song is 80bpm, the toilet clicking is 120. Also you can very faintly hear part of the drum beat from the headphones in that video, and it's different to the USoE drumming. I'm not saying there isn't finger snapping in there, just not ''that'' finger snapping! [[User:I like sleeping|I like sleeping]] 20:14, 19 July 2009 (BST)

Can / can't be won?

I hear can't. There's no actual T sound, because there's a glottal stop instead, same as how most British English speakers would say "can't be", unless they were taking care to emphasize it (try saying it out loud yourself!). Also compare it to the way Matt says can't in Can't Take My Eyes Off You. And that's my pronunciation lesson for today :) I like sleeping 00:30, 16 July 2009 (BST)

Okay, lots of people have said "can't" so I guess it is. I couldn't hear the glottal stop myself and I did listen to it, but we'll go with popular opinion for the time being until we get some kind of confirmation! =] Niall 00:35, 16 July 2009 (BST)
The point of the glottal stop is that there is no sound, there's a stop! Like how a cockney might say "city". Or something. Also, listening closely, I think he might say "cannot" the first time. Or we could just wait for the album to get the actual lyrics, haha. :) I like sleeping 00:43, 16 July 2009 (BST)
I know, I speak some German and glottal stops come in before vowels quite a lot. But you could still hear it as opposed just a "can" I would have thought. Oh well, we'll find out some time soon hopefully! Niall 00:54, 16 July 2009 (BST)
I'd think it'd be can't, as a reference to 1984, the wars just went on (although there is a lot of ambiguity as to whether they were real or not), no one ever actually won, although allies/enemies swapped. It also sounds more like "can't" to me, and "can't" seems to fit better with the rest of the lyrics. Left Noise 04:55, 16 July 2009 (BST)
I vote that it's 'can', as we've heard on previous songs, Matt says 'Can't' like an English person would, with the lower 'A'. I too cannot hear the 'T' at the end either. Musername 14:05, 16 July 2009 (BST)
Weird logic, I know, but if you sing along and use can and can't, there's too much of a space for it to be can and there's still some faint singing, presumably the end of can't. (nuttyboy 12:04, 17 July 2009 (BST))
I personally think it's "can't," partially because you can faintly hear a soft "D" sound as the "T" is cut off (like his tongue is forming the "T" sound but the airflow is being cut off by the glottis), and also because the emphasis seems to fall on that faint/missing sound, whereas with "can" the emphasis would be on the final "N" (as in "can be only one" for example). --Dyingatheist 18:02, 7 August 2009
the album (and song) is about fighting back, so in the context its's used in, i'd say he says 'can' Robinflight 15:42, 13 September 2009 (BST)

2001 St. Malo

I don't deny that the USoE riff might have been inspired by the Cave riff but I also agree and highly doubt that the Cave riff is the USoE riff. Until some sort of confirmation is given, I think it should be removed from the 'First Live Performance' section. nuttyboy 12:34, 19 July 2009 (BST)
