Arena Riga (Arēna Rīga in Latvian) is a multi-purpose indoor arena in Riga, Latvia. The arena was opened in 2006 and was designed by SCI Architects, a Canadian company, together with Latvian companies SIA Merks and SIA Nams. It was built as one of the venues for the 2006 IIHF World Championship and is primarily used for ice hockey, basketball and concerts. The arena can hold anywhere between 10,300 and 14,500 people.
Arena Riga is the home arena to the Latvian national ice hockey team, the Latvian national men's an women's basketball team, the Dinamo Riga hockey club, the BK VEF Rīga basketball team and was the home to BK Barons and ASK Riga former basketball teams until 2009.
Sporting events that took place inside the arena include the 2009 and 2019 EuroBasket Women Championships, the 2011 FIBA Under-19 World Championship, the 2013 FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship, EuroBasket 2015 Championship, the 2016 European Wrestling Championships, the 2018 FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship and the 2019 UEFA Under-19 Futsal Championship.
Musical events and performances held at the arena include the 2014 8th World Choir Games, the 2017 Eurovision Choir Of The Year Competition, with musical acts performing inside including 2Cellos, Queen + Paul Rodgers, Ringo Starr & The All-Starr Band, Sting, Iggy and The Stooges, Depeche Mode, Sex Pistols, Billy Idol, Chris Rea, Bonnie Tyler, Elton John, Lana Del Rey, Nine Inch Nails, James Brown, Sigur Rós and more.
