The name of the song was mentioned by Matt while speaking with Matt Wilkinson on Beats 1 Radio on February 16th, 2018. According to Matt the song blends a bit of classical romantic piano with 80s synths/computer game music.

The Qmagazine made a preview of Simulation Theory on 23th October, and they said this about the song: "''Opener Algorithm sounds like it could be from Daft Punk's Tron: Legacy soundtrack, a fusion of dramatic strings and industrial electro.''"
Matt's favourite track from the album, he said this in an interview about the song "''My favourite track from the new album it's probably Algorithm, because it's an interesting combo of retro-synth and futuristic stuff''".
This song, alongside other yet unreleased songs, was leaked in a series of short 20 second video clips showing the vinyl player. The full song was leaked the next day, on November 7th 2018
The song has also been compared by various reviewers to Apocalypse Please and Supremacy and by fans to Take a Bow and The Dark Side.
