The Lanterns is an infamous venue on the outskirts of Ashburton that used to host regular live gigs and dance nights. It is situated about 10 miles northwest of Teignmouth, therefore making it an obvious venue for Muse to play during their early days.
Unfortunately, the venue rarely plays host to music events anymore, settling on corporate functions and weddings as their main source of income, they've managed to make a superbly seedy dive look like something from Butlins.
In its day, The Lanterns played host to many named stars such as, The Levellers, Ziggy Marley, John Martyn and The Noel Redding Experience (original bass player with the Jimi Hendrix Experience), who funnily enough are a big influence for Muse, so even if they never get to play alongside them (at least not in this dimension), then at least they have played on the same low stage in the same seedy venue as one original member of the J.H. Experience.
Sings: "I have played in every toilet"....well, the Lanterns surely must have qualified to be one such venue. Shame though, cos seedy toilets such as this used to make for some excellent nights of entertainment.
