Analysis and Explanation

Falling Away With You is well known for being the oldest song that appeared on a Muse album that has yet to be played live, at least not in its full version.

Indeed, it was performed a couple of times, at the Reading and Leeds festivals in 2002, but only instrumentally in its demo form, as an intro to Eternally Missed. These aren't included as official performances, but it's the nearest thing to Falling Away With You being played live.

Since then small sections of the song has been partially teased live multiple times. The riff was played as an intro to Starlight on the São Paulo, Brazil gig in 2008 and a portion of the song was played briefly at a soundcheck on September 9th, 2013 as an instrumental piano interlude to Citizen Erased. In addition, Matt played the riff very briefly at the Simulation Theory iHeartRadio release party gig in 2018 before Something Human.

During a #askmuse Q&A session on Twitter in 2012, Matt was asked by a fan if the band would ever play the song live, to which he replied "not sure".[1] Despite this and the fact it looks very unlikely the band will ever play the song live, it was a setlist option for the 2017 Shepherds Bush Empire show, indicating the band are willing to perform it if requested.
