Analysis and Explanation

Nature_1 is the oldest song from the Origin of Symmetry era, dating back to a live debut sometime in 1996. It was performed very often during 1996/1997, so much so that it appears in every 1997 setlist known today. This heavily implies that the song was done at most gigs of the era. It does not make an appearance in either of the known 1998 sets, though this does not imply much as the only full 1998 set comes from December.

Nature_1 showed up again during November 1999 after being absent from the Showbiz tour thus far. There are two known performances from November 1999, though the actual number could be moderately higher as there are several unknown setlists from that time. When larger setlists began to be introduced in January 2000, Nature_1 was left out, only to appear at an acoustic gig in May and then another in October 2000. It is around this point in time that Muse performed Nature_1 somewhat often, making six known appearances between October and November 2000. The band were experimenting with half acoustic, half electric sets at the time, giving them the perfect opportunity to rehearse this song.

Though intended for release on Origin of Symmetry, the band withheld Nature_1 and it was released as a b-side. This would be the last time the band rehearsed it live as it has not been performed live since the end of the Showbiz era.
