== Analysis and Explanation ==
Spiral Static was played quite often during the band's demo stages, making appearances in two out of the four known setlists from 1997. It is quite possible that Spiral Static was played in excess of twenty times during the demo years, though a performance since 1997 has yet to be discovered. Live performances from 1997 are radically different, featuring different intros, lyrics, and tone. It is entirely possible that Spiral Static was performed live in 1998 or early 1999 at a gig where the setlist is unknown, though this cannot be backed up. When Matt was asked in a fan interview in 2000 whether or not Spiral Static was ever played live, Matt did not answer the question. This could indicate that Spiral Static has not been performed live in its final form. The band were considering performing it live during the Origin of Symmetry tour of October/November 2001 however, alongside the also considered Map of Your Head, Spiral Static was left off of setlists (Sober and Agitated, two other songs considered by the band for setlist inclusion, were performed). This is likely the last time it was rehearsed live or performed in soundchecks.

No footage is available of Spiral Static live. Though a rare song with very little chance of ever being performed live again, Spiral Static still has its fans who continue to hope for its return. In a poll of 500 fans conducted in November 2015, out of a total thirty songs that had not been played since The Resistance era, fans voted Spiral Static as the seventeenth most requested song to make a return to setlists.<ref>[http://web.archive.org/web/20151126224641/http://strawpoll.me/6086378/r]</ref>
