Matthew Bellamy first mentioned a possible gig in Belfast during an interview with Ben Jones on Virgin Radio, on the 18th of February 2008.<ref name="vr20080218"/> He mentioned it again during an interview at the [[NME awards|NME awards]] on BBC Radio 1 and XFM, on the 28th of the same month.<ref name="zli20080228"/><ref name="xfm20080228">
{{cite/xfm20080228}}</ref> At the NME awards, Bellamy expressed a desire on the part of the band to have Glasvegas, who had won the Philip Hall Radar Award, as support for the Belfast and Dublin gigs. He said Muse needed a "good" band to play with.<ref name="zli20080228"/>
