Red Hot Chili Peppers are an American alternative rock band, formed in Los Angeles, California in 1983.

Throughout their career, the band has fused various elements of alternative rock, punk, rap, funk, heavy metal and psychedelic rock. They have sold 60 million records worldwide and hold the record for most number one singles on the Billboard Modern Rock Chart - 11.

===Muse===
Both Matthew Bellamy and Dominic Howard saw the Red Hot Chili Peppers at Reading festival when they were in the range of 15 and 16 years old,<ref>

Of their support leg, the band have stated that it was through watching them perform, which they did every night, Muse's outlook on performing live changed. The members of Muse have also made numerous miscellaneous references to the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
