The Roundhouse

The Roundhouse is a well known historic venue in London. It was built in 1846 by the London and North Western Railway, first as a train roundhouse, containing the railway turntable, and then as a steam-engine repair shed. The building has stopped being used just before World War II and reopened in 1964 as a performing arts venue by Centre 42 Theatre Company and was adapted into a theatre.

The building went into another disuse in 1983 when Centre 42 had ran out of funds. The building was purchased by a local businessman in 1996 and performing arts returned with it. In 2004, the building closed again for redevelopment works and opened back in 2006. Since then, it has become once again a prominent venue in London. The building has been declared as a National Heritage Site in 2010.

The Roundhouse is also a registered charity, running a creative programme for 11 - 25-year-olds through The Roundhouse Trust, teaching them skills in live music, circus, theatre and new media. Courses are held at Roundhouse Studios, located underneath the main building, housing music recording studios, film and TV production studios, radio studios and rehearsal spaces/rooms.
