Description

Hexagons is a steady-moving electronic/prog rock piece, running in time signatures of 4/4 and 6/4, noted for its arpeggiated synths. The song has been compared to Take a Bow and The Dark Side aswell as Exogenesis: Symphony Part I and Ruled by Secrecy. Despite the comparisons, the song represents itself as a unique piece and leans on Muse's more experimental electronica side. The song opens and closes with 80s-tingled synth bass-heavy instrumental sections, which both feature brief tapping solos and guitar/synth layers, reminiscent of Glorious. At the end, the fuzzy drop segways into the beat to the following track on the album; The Sickness In You & I. Aleks Von Korff himself mentioned on Instagram that Take a Bow served as the inspiration behind the synth arps.[1]

As noted above, a treasure hunt was held by Muse via Instagram in May 2026. Pictures of maps of certain areas in six larger cities across the world have been posted as stories, each highlighted over with a hexagon shape. The hunt took place in Sydney, Mexico City, New York City, Paris, London and Los Angeles. Promotional billboards were "hidden" in each of these locations and the billboards themselves featured sections of lyrics and QR codes, leading to sub-sites on Muse.mu with downloadable links to six parts of the song. Hexagons was then released as the album's fourth single on May 19th 2026.

Lyrics

I'm a marionette with severed strings, gorge on my soul while I'm weak and dying.

Haunted by futures I can't avoid, a shape emerged through the fog of war.

Synthetic and divine, we touched the veil and it broke our spines.

Our resistance is mass-produced. She will ghost write my obsessions. Reach out, touch me and draw me from the sixth dimension, you have been forcing my hand.

Love revealed our failed rebellion.

Our resistance is mass-produced. She will ghost write my obsessions. Reach out, touch me and draw me from the sixth dimension, you have been forcing my hand.
