Muse both opened and closed the 30 minute live episode of "Later... with Jools Holland" with Uprising and United States of Eurasia, respectively. As with the performance six days earlier for "Taratata", a string ensemble accompanied the band during United States of Eurasia (this time with six performers). Matthew Bellamy made a minor mistake towards the end of the song.
The concert was part of the first European leg of The Resistance Tour, in support of the album The Resistance, announced on the 1st of June, 2009. Fan pre-sale information and links were announced on the 3rd of June. Pre-sale took place on the 4th–5th of June, and general sale started on the 8th. The concert was promoted by Livenation.

Muse also performed Undisclosed Desires after the live episode had finished, and this performance was included in the pre-recorded version of the show, broadcast by the BBC on the 18th of September 2009.
On playing songs from The Resistance live, Howard stated that learning to do so "should take a while!" and rehearsals started on the 19th of July.<ref</ref> On the 22nd, Musewire readers were told to "expect an 8-foot stone 'enge" for The Resistance tour's stage design.

Uprising was included as the first track on the Later... Live With Jools Holland 2 compilation CD, released in the UK during October 2009.
Guiding Light, Exogenesis: Symphony Part 1 (Overture) and Helsinki Jam were played live for the first time, while Unintended was played for the first time in two years. We Are The Universe made its debut also.
