Softcult

Softcult are a Canadian alternative & indie, self-described "grunge, shoegaze and dreampop" band, hailing from Toronto. The band consists of a duo, sisters Mercedes Arn-Horn (guitar & vocals) and Phoenix Arn-Horn (drums & vocals), with the two also having two live members; A guitarist and a bassist. Mercedes and Phoenix are also members of the Canadian pop-punk band "Courage My Love", together with bassist Brandon Lockwood. The band formed in 2021. They draw major inspiration from the "riot grrrl" movement, citing "Bikini Kill", a renowned American punk rock band from the 90s, as one of their major influences. Speaking about their name, Mercedes said; "A soft cult could be anything from a church, a government, a family, a band even. It’s anything that you don’t really question where you follow your group of people. We’re all in soft cults in society that we don’t realize we’re a part of."

Softcult began dropping singles in 2021, releasing their first EP, called "Year Of The Rat", on April 16th, 2021. Their second EP, "Year Of The Snake" was released on February 4th, 2022.

The band is set to support Muse on their gig in Toronto's History, on October 14th, 2022, during the Will of the People Theatre Tour.[1]
