Introduced in 1992, the MiniDisc format was intended to be a digital replacement for the audio cassette. The format achieved only limited success, but nevertheless, the Muse albums Showbiz and Origin of Symmetry were released on MiniDisc, although the number produced was more limited than in any other format.
