Part of the Will of the People World Tour, and only Asian stop on the tour.
Information
First teased as an upcoming Asian gig on February 16th, 2023, it was later confirmed on February 22nd, by both the band and promoter, Hello Universe, that the Asian gig would take place in Malaysia, in Kuala Lumpur, on July 29th. The venue was announced a week after, on February 28th. Ticket2U tickets went on-sale on March 3rd, 2023 at 10AM, local time, while GoLive presale started on March 2nd. On June 1st, 2023, Hello Universe officially announced that the venue has changed from the Bukit Kiara Equestrian Resort to the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, due to overwhelming response. [6]
This was only the second ever time that Muse has performed in Malaysia, the first of which was back in 2007.
Hello Universe, together with a local radio, Fly FM, were holding a competition for young bands. The winner had the chance to open for Muse on this gig. There were 7 finalists competing for the support slot.[7] On July 11th, 2023, Hello Universe officially announced that Kyoto Protocol'd be supporting the band.[8]
The show
After The 1975's incident in Malaysia, Muse's management reached out to Hello Universe to ensure the setlists comply with Malaysia's government guidelines.[9]. This lead to We Are Fucking Fucked being removed from the setlist, due to it's title, and was replaced with Resistance. Apart from this change, the standard festival set was played, with the show itself also being a festivals one.
The burning "WOTP" logo was not present during Will of the People. Fire cannons were used for the first time for You Make Me Feel Like It's Halloween, likely to compensate the lack of We Are Fucking Fucked and its pyro show.
The Manson MB-1 Blue guitar was also used for the first time since the Rock Werchter festival gig at the start of the month.
Muse started the show an hour late from the advertised start time.
