Rock giants to play hometown gigs?

Friday, August 07, 2009, 09:15

TEIGNMOUTH rock group Muse are set to play two homecoming gigs, according to reports today.

Matt Bellamy, Chris Wolstenholme and Dominic Howard are believed to be coming home for the concerts on The Den on September 4 and 5.

Secret talks have been taking place over the last few months and people at the centre of the arrangements remain tight-lipped.

Teignmouth councillor Terry Falcão said 'premature' publicity could jeopardise the project adding: "I cannot discuss any proposals that may or may not have been made."

If the shows go ahead it will be a huge coup for Teignmouth and is likely to attract worldwide publicity.

The concerts are believed to be taking place before Muse set off on their ten-week tour of America and Europe.

The supergroup are about to release their fifth album, The Resistance, out on September 14.

Concert promoter SJM Ltd has applied to Teignbridge Council for a licence for a 'music concert' on The Den, for up to 15,000 people, but with only 10,000 tickets being on sale for each evening.

Residents would get priority for the tickets.

Muse's last album Black Holes and Revelations was released in 2006. They finished their world tour with a spectacular date at Wembley Stadium.

A Teignbridge Council spokesman confirmed SJM Ltd had applied for a licence although Muse's name does not appear on it.

He said: "The application would go to the licensing committee.

"The executive committee would also have to consider whether to give landowner permission, as the authority is the Den's landowner."
