Analysis and Explanation

Fury is a rare song live that has been performed at almost every tour since its debut alongside many Absolution songs on the Origin of Symmetry tour. Fury was performed three times in 2002 (it is also possible though unlikely that the song was performed at Quart Festival 2002) as a rehearsal before recording sessions began. While recordings of all three performances are available and sound excellent, Chris and Dom did not like the song as much after performing it live. Thus, it lost its spot on the album to The Small Print, much to Matt's dismay. Its status as a Japanese bonus track helped bring it back to setlists in 2004 after skipping all dates in 2003. It reappeared for three Japanese gigs in February 2004 and, as the band enjoyed performing it, it was kept in setlists for some March dates as well and one appearance in December of 2004. The song then reappeared in the 2007 Oceanic leg of the Black Holes and Revelations tour, and a series of scattered performances the following year. Fury would not make any further appearances for five years.

At the famous Tokyo Zepp performance on August 13, 2013, Fury was played again as one of many rarities that night. The band liked the song enough to perform it twice again that year, one of only three rarities at the Zepp performance to be played again that year. Fury showed up again for the Psycho UK Tour and one appearance in the Drones Festival tour. Muse and the fans both love this song it seems, and it is likely that Fury will continue to show up in setlists as a rarity for years to come. As well, before Fury's performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival, Matt introduced the song as "the most requested song among hardcore fans".

On another interesting note, the band soundchecked Fury live on July 19th 2006 and possibly other gigs around that time. It's believed that the band intended to perform Fury live on the 2006 tour but decided against it for unknown reasons.
