Per this web blog The band played the Exeter Cavern on July 15, 1997 along with Red Shift. From the listing it appears that Red Shift performed before Muse, but that is an assumption.
This is also the gig where Dennis Smith saw Muse perform and offered them free studio time at Sawmills. (from D himself)
